Tesla Announces New Winter Charging Solution: Complimentary Hair Dryer Included With Every Vehicle

PALO ALTO, CA — In a move executives are calling “bold, elegant, and extremely on-brand,” Tesla announced Tuesday that all vehicles will now ship with a factory-approved hair dryer, designed specifically for thawing frozen charging ports after automatic car washes in 4-degree weather.

According to Tesla, the new accessory—branded the Tesla Thermal Personal Air Movement Device™—solves what engineers describe as “a niche but spiritually important edge case,” in which owners discover that their $60,000 vehicle has been rendered immobile by a tablespoon of frozen water and the laws of Midwestern winter.

“We could have redesigned the charge port,” said one Tesla spokesperson, speaking while standing in front of a sleek PowerPoint slide labeled ‘User Adaptation.’ “But innovation isn’t about removing problems. It’s about empowering customers to solve them themselves with household appliances.”

A Premium Experience, Reimagined

Tesla owners report that the recommended process is simple:

  1. Leave the charge port open.
  2. Enable Camp Mode.
  3. Activate the charge-port heater.
  4. Aim a hair dryer directly into the vehicle’s most emotionally vulnerable area.
  5. Reflect quietly on your life choices.

“It’s actually kind of zen,” said Illinois resident Mark T., who spent 45 minutes blow-drying his Model Y in an unheated garage while his phone warned him that Camp Mode was consuming 7% battery per hour. “I feel like I’m bonding with the car. Like it’s a very expensive, very cold pet.”

Tesla confirmed that the hair dryer is not included in the base price, but is available as part of the Cold Climate Readiness Bundle, which also includes:

  • A laminated Reddit thread explaining what to do
  • A disclaimer that says ‘This Is Normal’
  • And a software update that renames the issue from “design oversight” to “winter interaction event”

Engineers Emphasize This Is a Feature, Actually

Tesla engineers were quick to clarify that the frozen charge port is not a flaw, but a learning opportunity.

“Internal combustion vehicles rely on crude explosions,” said one senior engineer. “Our cars rely on mindfulness, patience, and sometimes a Conair 1875-watt ionic dryer. That’s progress.”

When asked why the charge port does not simply stay open long enough to thaw naturally, Tesla explained that the car’s instinct to immediately close it is “a self-care boundary.”

“The vehicle doesn’t want to be vulnerable for too long,” the engineer added.

Owners Divided, Mostly in Silence

While some critics have questioned why a futuristic electric vehicle requires a 1998 bathroom appliance to function in winter, most Tesla owners defended the decision.

“If you can’t handle a little DIY thawing,” said one owner on Reddit, “maybe Tesla ownership isn’t for you.”

Another chimed in: “Honestly, hair dryers are cheaper than gas.”

At press time, Tesla was rumored to be working on a follow-up solution for summer, in which owners are advised to gently fan the touchscreen with a magazine to prevent overheating.

“Again,” the company emphasized, “this is not a problem. This is the future.”
